The International Air Services Commission (the Commission) has received an application
from Virgin Australia requesting an allocation of 1,304 seats of passenger capacity per week on the Vanuatu route. It is planned that Virgin Australia will operate an additional 7 services per week from July 2024, using Boeing B737 aircraft configured with 182 seats.
Virgin Australia has requested the capacity on the following basis:
- the allocation is requested for a period of five years from the date of the determination;
- the capacity will be fully utilised by 31 December 2024;
- the capacity will by utilised by Virgin Australia International Airlines Pty Ltd.
Invitation for other applications
In accordance with section 12 of the International Air Services Commission Act 1992, the Commission invites other applications for capacity on the route.
The closing date for making an application is 24 May 2024. If you are intending to make an application, please inform the Director of the Commission, by email (at iasc@infrastructure.gov.au), as soon as possible.

On 28 May 2024, the Commission issued Determination [2024] IASC 111 allocating to Virgin Australia 1,304 seats of passenger capacity per week on the Vanuatu route.
