The International Air Services Commission (the Commission) has received an application [PDF: 237 KB] from Qantas seeking the allocation of 337 seats per week of capacity in each direction to operate one additional service per week during peak periods between Australia and Chile.
For flexibility, Qantas has also requested for another Australian carrier which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qantas such as Jetstar Airways Pty Limited to be able utilise the capacity.
Invitation for other applications
In accordance with section 12 of the International Air Services Commission Act 1992, the Commission invites other applications for the capacity.
The closing date for making an application is 29 April 2019. If you are intending to make an application, please inform the Executive Director of the Commission, by email (at iasc@infrastructure.gov.au), of your intention to make an application as soon as possible.
Update: 14-June-2019
On 14 June 2019, the Commission issued Determination [2019] IASC 109, allocating to Qantas 337 seats per week in each direction of passenger capacity on the Chile route. The capacity may be used by either Qantas or its wholly-owned subsidiary, Jetstar Airways Pty Limited. Additionally, the capacity may be used for the provision of code share services between Qantas and LATAM under a blocked space arrangement. The determination is valid for five years from 14 June 2019.
