The Commission has received an application [PDF: 484 KB] from Qantas seeking an extension, for a further two years from 31 December 2010, of the current authorisations that permit Qantas to code share with South African Airways on Qantas services between Sydney and Johannesburg. Submissions about this application are invited.

The closing date for notice of intention to make a submission is COB 6 July 2010, with submissions due by COB 13 July 2010. If no notice of intention is received by COB 6 July 2010, the Commission may proceed to decide matters under consideration as soon as practicable after that date.

The Commission has today issued a draft decision [PDF: 162 KB] proposing to continue authorisation of the Qantas/South African Airways arrangements beyond the current expiry date of 31 December 2010 for a further 12 months, that is, until 31 December 2011.

The Commission invites submissions from interested parties about the draft decision. Interested parties have until COB 26 August 2010 to notify an intention to make a submission and until COB 2 September 2010 to lodge the submission, unless additional time is sought and agreed to by the Commission.

Update: 09-September-2010

The Commission issued a second draft decision [PDF: 174 KB] today confirming its intention to continue authorisation of the Qantas/South African Airways arrangements beyond the current expiry date of 31 December 2010 for a further 12 months. The Commission has now included in the decision a requirement for Qantas and South African Airways to expand the combined number of frequencies per week from 12 to 14.

The Commission now invites submissions from interested parties about this draft decision. Interested parties will have until COB 16 September 2010 to notify an intention to make a submission and until COB 23 September 2010 to lodge the submission, unless additional time is sought and agreed to by the Commission.

The Commission issued Decision [2010] IASC 204  [PDF: 179 KB]  permitting South African Airways to code share on Qantas services operated to and from South Africa until 31 December 2011.
